Hey Everyone! Some people think that just because it's summer, It is time to just relax and do nothing. Well not for Pitt Oakland circle K members. Let's just take our President of Services,
Courtney Matisko for example. To get a clear picture, I asked her to explain what exactly she did. Courtney said,
This summer I am working on making action packs for Christians in Pakistan. Christianity isn't the dominant (or even an accepted) form of religion, so Christians are pursecuted for showing their beliefs in a public setting. Because of this, most go into hiding to prevent from being arrested by the government and killed. Action packs are big bags that are filled with blankets, clothing, soap, etc. for the families that are in hiding in Pakistan. The packs are filled by the public and then shipped to a loading site where helicoptors fly over Pakistan and air drop them to the families in need. I have been making home-made blankets for my action packs and using other store-bought items. I also volunteer for a 12-hour monthly event at a local soup kitchen helping to pass out food to homeless/needy people in my area. This soup kitchen event is held by my church, which also owns its own second-hand store (like a goodwill, but everything is free) where people can come in and find things that they need, but don't have." She's not the only one whose been servicing this summer! Our very own President of Pitt Oakland circle K Alex Hirschberg. He said, "What i basically do is volunteer for a rescue squad once a week for 10.5 hours and once every three weekends for the same amount of time. So when people in my town call 9-1-1 I help treat them/ take them to the hospital. etc."
Way to go Guys!
